"Commius Project will make easier the bussiness to bussiness in between european BME through free protocols".

The project Commius, sponsored by the European Commission aims to facilitate the interactions among European SMEs based on free protocols and the reuse of existing and familiar applications for electronic communication widely spread among the majority of  companies.

Commius provides a technological solution for SMEs with a zero (very low) cost of entry allowing to improve the exchange of information or documents among more than 19 million European SMEs. Once having finalized the development phase, the Commius solution can be downloaded using automated self-installation routines and it will be hooked into the SMEs’ systems and email infrastructure. The developed Commius prototype will be functioning in February, 2011.

The efforts to improve interoperability among European SMEs are focused on three   fundamental aspects: interoperability of systems, semantic interoperability and process interoperability.

The Commius Consortium is formed by ten of the most prestigious European IT institutions and companies: Atos Origin, Aitek, DFKI, Fedit, IISAS, Softeco Sismat, Singular Logic, Techfin, Vienna University of Technology and University of Manchester. Besides, the Commius consortium is forming a Commius community, whose main purpose is to provide valuable feedback of all involved stakeholders to let the application evolve and improve over time.

The main benefits for SMEs are centered in the improvement of interoperability and collaboration, in the growth of business opportunities and in product costs reduction. This project enables SMEs to increase the use of ICT due to its low cost applications without changing daily working routines.
